Approximately one in six people in employment in New Zealand is self-employed i. At a broad industry level, there can be large differences in the proportion of people in employment who are self-employed.

This section looks at overall trends in the rate of self-employment in the Auckland at an aggregate level as well as at a 1-digit ANZSIC06 industry classification level. These self-employment rates are also contrasted against those of the national economy.
