Gaining insights into the types required in a region and how they relate to actual skill levels can be useful in identifying and addressing skills gaps. This section describes the types of qualifications, in terms of qualification level on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework and field of study, that are ideally required in Auckland.

The estimate of ideal demand for qualifications outlined in this section is derived from our estimates of the demand for occupations by using assumptions about the types of qualifications which are ideally required for each occupation. Thus, our estimates do not describe the educational profile of the region’s workforce, but rather the type of qualifications that are ideally required in the area.
